Town of Beckwourth

Town of Beckwourth

Plumas County has the largest alpine meadow in the Sierras, formed by the meeting of the Sierra and the Cascade mountain ranges. This town was settled by the son of a Southern planter and a slave from Virginia, James P. Beckwourth. He was a trapper, scout and mountain man, exploring the West with the likes of Jim Bridger, Kit Carson and Peter Lassen. Beckwourth settled in this area in 1852 near the Feather River.
