Window

WindowI don’t think a scenic artist could recreate this window. Years of paint, hands touching the glass and wood, water damage and cooking smoke has created a patina of matchless beauty. There is something powerful about objects that have been touched for decades and then abandoned. After Hurricane Katrina, I went to an incredible art exhibit  called FloodWall. An artist had gathered up 350 of the drawers strewn around New Orleans after the flood and mounted them into a wall 8 by 96 feet viewable from both sides. Personal things remain in many of the drawers and somehow this intimate view into people’s lives makes the heartbreak of the disaster palpable: http://www.floodwall.org/drawers_stories.html
